Today saw the last instalment of this years Downtown in Business & Cotton Courts Social Media Breakfast Seminars. We would like to thank everyone who has attended over the year and look forward to kick starting next year with a new twist.

In this instalment Tom Stables and Nathaniel Cassidy of 3ManFactory, along with Jeremy Coates from Magma Digital explained their accessible analytics approach, looking at what tools to use, what information is important and how to use the data that is available to ensure return on investment and to refine your strategy.

If you missed any of the great social media tips from the guys at 3ManFactory and Magma Digital, here are some of the ‘most tweeted about’ tips:

– If you don’t want to unfriend on Facebook ‘hide’ people instead! You won’t see their posts anymore & they won’t know

– Bitly is great for shortening web links and measuring how often they are visited

– SocialBro is a useful tool for twitter analytics

– With Twitter, it’s about the instant. You’ve got to tweet a lot to over-do it

– Sometimes email marketing stats can be deceiving

– If you use MailChimp for newsletter distribution take a look at the Analytics feature – it’s great

– There is no way to know if your site is effective without Analytics – check them regularly

Klout is a measure of influence online; at a very basic level you can get a lot out of it

– If you want to monitor your tweets, Topsy is a great service for doing so. It’s easy to use, and it’s free!

– The time you post your message online is key

– You don’t need to use Facebook to sell; you can also use it for PR, talent acquisition and sharing company culture – we do!

– Statistics are great, but you have to act on them

Supermarket chain Morrisons opening new store

Supermarket chain Morrisons are opening a new store on Blackpool Road in Preston.

The work for the new store is well underway and is due to be open in the next few weeks. The new store has created hundreds of new jobs, and we have hosted their interviews here at Cotton Court for the last three weeks.

They have first week was a very interactive group interview stage, then successful candidates were invited back for individual interviews over weeks two and three.

Amongst the candidates were some of our client’s from Remploy and all of us here at Cotton Court would like to wish them the best of luck that their applications have been successful.

The chain, the UK’s fourth largest supermarket company, has previously announced its intention to create dozens more smaller convenience stores as part of a nationwide expansion. It is also developing its online offer with a new grocery ordering service.

We really enjoyed hosting the interviews and working with the team at Morrisons…it is going to seem quiet without them. They will be back in the next few weeks for a series of training sessions for the new staff, and they are having a team building event at Glovers bar in the next few weeks…no doubt a few members of our team will see them down there!

We are looking forward to visiting the new store when it opens and seeing a few familiar faces.

The team of Cotton Court Business Centre are pleased to announce we have reached the final for Conference & Meeting Venue Award at the Lancashire Tourism Award 2013!!! We are truly excited that we have made it into the final stages and up against some of our biggest competition.

In our category we are up against Blackpool Zoo and Brockholes Visitor Centre, Preston.


The impressive shortlist for the Lancashire Tourism Award 2013 has been revealed.  Having received more applications than ever before, this year’s list of finalists is also the longest in the event’s 10 year history.

The Lancashire Tourism Awards 2013 will take place on Thursday 7 November at Blackburn Cathedral and will be one of the cathedral’s first major corporate events, hosted by tourism expert, broadcaster and Travel Editor of The Independent, Simon Calder.

Ruth Connor, Chief Executive of Marketing Lancashire said “We have been so impressed by the quantity and quality of applications, especially in this the Lancashire Tourism Awards 10th anniversary year. The awards celebrate the significance of tourism’s current £3.4billion contribution to the Lancashire economy and a great deal of that success is due to the dedication and enterprise of the businesses and individuals named today.


“We congratulate them and ask that colleagues across the county show their appreciation and pride in Lancashire, by supporting these exceptional businesses and by joining us on the 7 November at Blackburn Cathedral when the winners will be announced.”

We are once again helping promote Preston By Night working alongside the Preston BID Team to promote Preston, Lancashire Why not cast your vote now!

About the awards:

The Alive After Five Hospitality Awards are staged by Preston BID to recognise those businesses in the night time economy who offer a great night out. Only venues that are based in the immediate city centre, that have nominated themselves, or been nominated by another venue, have reached the finals. The individual awards will be won on public votes and the venue awards will be judged both by public votes and mystery shoppers.

Voting closes on September 27th at 5.00pm.























A HUGE Success! Thanks to Care Quality Commission

On 31st July and 5th August, Cotton Court hosted a series large conferences for the Care Quality Commission, a series of information sessions for service providers across the North West.

Each session had around 70 attendees and positive feedback was received about the content of the sessions and the venue.

It was one of the largest conferences we have held at Cotton Court, a PA system and interactive voting system were set up for the key speakers and lunch was provided by local caterers, Swarbricks.

It was great to work with CQC on this type of event and we are looking forward to working with them again in the future.

Lancashire Markets a continuing success

The popular Lancashire Market returned to the city streets and has become a major extravaganza for local food and drink. The rain didn’t hamper as food lovers braved the drizzle to sample cakes, drinks and much more local produce.


The Lancashire Market, backed by Preston’s Business Improvement District, helps bring hundreds of extra people into the city centre and boost local trade.

Over 300,000 people have been visiting the Markets since they began in 2010.

A few from the office visited this years markets and left having enjoyed ourselves on the great food!

We welcomed a very different customer to the building last weekend. The team at Crafty Vintage who offer a vintage, handmade & artisan food fair often seen in Clitheroe and at Brockholes transformed our outdoor space into a mix of food heaven and vintage shopping treats!
